According to several experts, the general health and quality of life of an individual can be significantly impacted by sleep disturbances. Obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and depression are just a few of the health issues that can result from chronic sleep deprivation. Usually, therapy, medication, and/or dietary changes are used to treat sleep disturbances.

On Friday, March 17, World Sleep Day was organized by the World Sleep Day Committee of the World Sleep Society. The objective was to celebrate the benefits of good and healthy sleep and to draw attention to the burden of sleep problems.

According to Dr. Satyanarayana Mysore, Head, and Consultant in Pulmonology at Manipal Hospital, Old Airport Road, with a significant population of IT professionals, Bangalore is regarded as a professional metropolis and is nearly like a city that never sleeps. Many sleep problems are brought on by increased light exposure, including insomnia, sleep onset insomnia, and disruptions in regular sleep and wake periods.

Hence, there is an urgent need for increased awareness of these sleep disorders and careful consideration of adopting good sleep habits like limiting coffee afternoon and adopting good sleep hygiene such as dark rooms and comfortable beds for good sleep with little to no noise or disturbance.

Sleep disorders are a range of illnesses that disturb a person′s ability to fall asleep, stay asleep, or feel rested after waking up. According to Dr. Damodar Bindhani, Clinical Director and HOD, Pulmonology, CARE Hospitals, Bhubaneswar, the typical sleep-wake cycle, which is managed by the bodys internal clock, is disturbed by a disease known as circadian rhythm disorder.

A number of variables, such as light exposure, hormone levels, and temperature, have an impact on the body′s internal clock. He explained that when the bodys internal clock is disrupted, it can cause a range of sleep-related problems, including difficulty falling asleep or staying awake, excessive sleepiness during the day, and changes in appetite and mood. (Source: https://www.daijiworld.com/news/newsDisplay?newsID=1061075 )
